The Mural in the Penny Cluse Bathroom 2003-2011 Laytex paint 5 walls and a ceiling.
|
Back in 2003 I painted this mural in the bathroom of the Penny Cluse Cafe in Burlington, Vermont, the greatest restaurant on Earth. I think of this mural as a visual song, with verses and choruses, rhythm and melody. As a kid I was a chronic listener of Sesame Street's Ernie and Bert Sing Along, in which a bathtub-bound Ernie coaxes the entire cast of Sesame Street to join him in the bathroom to sing...where the acoustics are best. This got me thinking... What would the bathroom mural sound like if it were a audible song?? I could run a song contest to encouraging local and touring musicians to put this words and music to the mural and record their songs in the bathroom and put them together in an album... But the sink leaked a little and over the years the walls have gotten tagged and a little grungy and it was time for a change... So the mural is gone, but the idea is alive and so the Cup Head Community Sing Along Project has begun... Stay tuned! |
